The Journey Of Jobberman: Revolutionizing Nigeria’s Job Search Landscape

    • June 23, 2023
The Journey Of Jobberman Revolutionizing Nigeria's Job Search Landscape (2)

In Nigeria, the quest for employment opportunities can be a daunting and overwhelming task. However, Jobberman, Nigeria’s largest job search platform, has emerged as a game-changer in the country’s employment landscape.

Jobberman was co-founded in 2009 by three visionary entrepreneurs: Ayodeji Adewunmi, Opeyemi Awoyemi, and Olalekan Olude from their dormitory at the Obafemi Awolowo University in South-West Nigeria. The trio recognized the immense challenges faced by job seekers and employers in Nigeria, including limited access to job opportunities and a fragmented recruitment process. Determined to bridge this gap, they embarked on a mission to revolutionize the job market through technology.

By creating an online platform that connected job seekers and employers, Jobberman simplified the job search process, increased transparency, and improved efficiency. With its user-friendly interface, extensive job listings, and value-added services like resume building and career advice, Jobberman rapidly became the go-to platform for job seekers and employers alike.

Over the years, Jobberman’s growth has been phenomenal. By leveraging digital marketing strategies and embracing partnerships, Jobberman reached a wider audience and established itself as a trusted brand.

    Growth

In 2015, Jobberman was acquired 100% by One Africa Media (OAM) in a merger roll-up arrangement that earned previous shareholders of Jobberman, shares in OAM. The following year, (2016) OAM merged with Ringier Africa to become Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM)

In 2020, Jobberman acquired NG Careers in a deal that united two of Nigeria’s most notable internet-based recruitment agencies.

Over the years, Jobberman has formed strategic partnerships with various organizations to enhance its services and expand its reach. Here are some notable partnerships: UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited (GenU), Mastercard Foundation, Google, NYSC, Sterling One Foundation, the CSR arm of Nigeria-based Sterling Bank, and more.

    Funding:

In 2011, Tiger Global became a Jobberman investor in less than three years after the company launched. The funding provided essential support to fuel its growth and expansion plans. By 2012 the firm added a Ghana branch”.

    Recognition

In February 2012, Jobberman received recognition for its achievements. Forbes Magazine ranked Jobberman as the 8th top tech startup in Africa, while the McKinsey Internet report acknowledged it as an innovative company in aspiring countries. Jobberman’s popularity was evident as alexa.com ranked it as the 48th most visited site in Nigeria, with a remarkable influx of 5,000 job applications daily. Notably, Jobberman’s founders, Olalekan Olude, Ayodeji Adewunmi, and Opeyemi Awoyemi, were personally commended by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2016, citing them as exemplary young Nigerians who utilized digital technology to make a significant impact across Africa.

By revolutionizing the job search process, empowering job seekers, and streamlining recruitment, Jobberman has made a significant impact on Nigeria’s employment landscape. As the platform continues to evolve, it has the potential to further shape the future of work in Nigeria and beyond.
